ICC opens Sudan war crimes probe as famine declared in five regions

The International Criminal Court has opened a preliminary examination into alleged war crimes in Sudan's Darfur region. Concurrently, the UN World Food Programme has formally declared famine conditions in five of Sudan's 18 states, affecting an estimated 4.9 million people.
